There was a light dusting of snow on the trail today.
The temperatures were cold but there was not the wind the city was suffering through.
There seemed to be more icy spots around this morning too.

Some snow today

Good weekend
The travels were in pretty good shape on the weekend considering the time of year.
The ground is definitely frozen solid.
There was some ice. Many of the trails that had been iced over earlier in the week had melted by the weekend but you still have to watch you footing in spots, especially where water would pool normally.
Enjoy the trails! Winter is officially here today.

Winter is here
As is you did not already know it by the cold temperatures and wind this week!
Quite different on the trail this morning from two weeks ago when I was out. Last time it was shorts and a bit of mud. This morning it was tights and ice.
The trail for the most part is wide open with very little snow but there are lots of spots with ice. Enough ice that screws in your shoes would not be a bad thing.
I was very careful but did manage to slip, once crashing to the ground in a heap, while on the ice.
Other then that it was a beautiful day to be out. Especially as the temperatures warmed up.

Another beautiful weekend
It was another beautiful weekend in the valley, or at least it was Sunday when the sun got up and glowing warmly.
The trail remains in great shape for the most part.
The section of Martin's Road that I wrote about in the last post has been graded and is good to go again.
There is a long dead pine down on the section of trail that is a pine forest before you come out to the road about two kilometres that requires a bit of a jump around and the trail is muddy there but other then that..........

Wet but mainly good today!
The trail was pretty damp today from Saturday's rain.
Several of the down hill areas were a little greasy but carefully foot falls made them passable.
What was a mess, however was the Martin's Road hill between the open space where a rock has been planted in the middle of the road to prevent access (near the entrance to teh private property) and where Dieter's aid station is located during Sulphur Springs Trail Race.
It appears someone has been tearing up the hill with their cars. It was extremely muddy.

Fall is definitely here

The trail is in pretty good shape now, as long as you are careful.
We seem to have missed out on some fall colours as a large amount of leaves have falledn already hiding the foot grabbers and obstacles for your feet. Two runners fell when they were out with me on the weekend.

The Gulch

The Conservation Authority was apparently talking about closing the gulch earlier this year but so far has not.
Unfortunately the torrential downpours the area has suffered in the last couple of month has been eating away the bottom of the gulch.
Someone has managed to dump this load of lumber half-way up the gulch. Apparently someone was planning a bonfire one night.
